This is Helm Life

Take a look at some of the special moments that we have experienced, captured through images!

PROM

It was prom night at The Helm in late June. Attendees enjoyed a catered dinner, captivating entertainment and dancing the night away! Mark your calendars for the end of next school year for the next prom!

Young ens in the house

For nearly 20 years now – 17 to be exact – second graders from Maire Elementary School have come to The Helm annually for Bingo. Watching the generations work together is not only fun, but heartwarming.

For the birds

When the kids are out of school, it’s a great time for intergenerational activities. Grandparents and their grandchildren came to The Helm to paint and decorate wood birdhouses. It was a fun – and colorful! – day at The Helm. Thank you to members Ed and Larry for building and donating the birdhouses.

Cooking for one

This four-week class started with a bang – or bruschetta. Participants learned how to make Avocado Breakfast Bruschetta and got to taste-test it too! This class is limited to 10 participants and there are nearly double that on the wait list, so watch for our fall classes. You may get the opportunity to take this one then!

Avocado Breakfast Bruschetta

1/2 ripe avocado, diced
1 small tomato, diced
2-4 fresh basil leaves, chopped
1 hard-boiled egg, peeled and diced
2 slices whole-wheat bread
2 tablespoons ricotta cheese
black pepper to taste
squeeze of fresh lemon to taste

In a small bowl, toss hard-boiled egg, avocado, tomato and basil. Add black pepper and lemon juice to taste. Toss gently until mixed. Toast bread and smear with ricotta cheese. Top with avocado mixture and serve.

Variations: No toast. Ricotta on top of mixture.
